Hiroshima Station is compact and easy to navigate compared to Tokyo's mega-stations. The Sanyo Shinkansen stops here directly — Osaka (Shin-Osaka) in 48 min on Nozomi, Kyoto in 1h10m, Tokyo in 3h45m. The Peace Memorial Park (A-Bomb Dome, museum) is 2.5 km west of the station, reachable by tram (20 min on Hiroshima Electric Railway Line 2 or 6) or taxi (10 min). Miyajima Island, with the famous floating torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, is 30 min by JR to Miyajimaguchi station then a 10-min JR ferry (JR Pass covers the ferry). The Hiroshima Electric Railway (streetcar) network is the primary local transport — single fare ¥230, one-day pass ¥700.
🏮 Local tip from a resident:Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (hiroshimayaki) is layered — batter, cabbage, noodles, egg — and completely different from Osaka's mixed style. Okonomimura (Okonomiyaki Village) on Shintenchi street has 25 vendors on multiple floors. Go to floor 2 or 3 for shorter queues. Do not leave Hiroshima without eating this.

Perfect as a 1-night stop between Osaka/Kyoto and Fukuoka. Peace Memorial Park is the primary draw — tram from station in 20 min. Miyajima Island is a half-day or full-day trip from the station. The city itself is walkable and relaxed by Japanese standards. Less convenient for touring multiple attractions in one day compared to Tokyo/Osaka.
