About Asakusa Station

Asakusa is where Edo-era Tokyo survives. Senso-ji Temple is a 5-minute walk. The rickshaws, the lantern-lit alleys, the craft shops selling kachi-kachi fans and ningyo-yaki — it's a completely different Tokyo from Shinjuku or Shibuya. The Asakusa Station area is served by the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line (Tokyo's oldest subway, connecting to Ginza and Shibuya), the Toei Asakusa Line (connects to Haneda Airport directly without transfer), and the Tobu Skytree Line (to Nikko in 2 hours). The Tsukuba Express (TX) Asakusa Station is 200m from the area and gives fast access to Akihabara (8 min). Be aware: Asakusa is on the eastern side of Tokyo, which means Shinjuku and the western areas take 35–45 minutes. This is a genuine trade-off you should understand before booking.

🏮 Local tip from a resident:The Senso-ji temple grounds never close — the inner gate is locked at night but the outer approach stays open. Walking through at 5:30am before the incense smoke gets thick is one of the genuinely transcendent Tokyo experiences. The Nakamise shopping street opens around 10am but the approach is worth walking even before that.

6/10

Tourist convenience rating

Excellent for: Senso-ji area walks (5 min on foot), Ueno (10 min, Ginza Line), Akihabara (8 min, TX Line), Ginza (15 min, Ginza Line), Haneda Airport without transfer (Toei Asakusa Line). Less convenient for: Shinjuku (35–45 min), Shibuya (40+ min), Harajuku. If your trip is Asakusa/Ueno/Akihabara focused, excellent base. If you want to cover all of Tokyo, consider Shinjuku instead.

Asakusa View Hotel

3 min walkasakusa station8.3(2,900)

2 min from Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station · 7 min from Tokyo Metro Asakusa Station

Asakusa's longest-running hotel, open since 1985 and still the neighborhood's most reliable mid-range choice. The building is 28 floors; upper floors facing southwest have clear views of Senso-ji's pagoda — arguably Tokyo's best temple view from a hotel room. It's 2 min from the Tsukuba Express station entrance and about a 5-minute walk from the main Senso-ji gate. Staff know the neighborhood exceptionally well.

Local tip: Request a high-floor room facing the temple — '高層・仲見世方向' is the Japanese phrase if you call. The rooftop bar opens in summer only (roughly July–September) and the view is worth the ¥1,500 drinks.

Khaosan Tokyo Ninja

3 min walkasakusa station8.6(1,200)

The most consistently well-reviewed hostel in Asakusa. Ninja-themed décor, spotlessly clean dormitories and private rooms, and a welcoming common room where you'll actually want to spend time. The location — 3 min from Asakusa Station — puts you within easy walking distance of Senso-ji, Nakamise-dori, and the river. Solo travelers regularly cite it as the social hub of their Tokyo trip.

Local tip: If they have a tatami + futon traditional Japanese room available, book it — it's priced the same as a standard private room but feels completely different. These sell out first.
